Designed for discrete sensing applications. Inputs read limit switches, proximity and photoelectric sensors, pushbuttons and auxiliary contacts into an SLC 500 rack, the position and status signals the ladder program runs on.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the SLC 500 platform, including 1746 I/O. Published successor for the SLC 500 1746 I/O: 5069-IB16 (sourcing input variant per wiring) (Compact 5000 I/O under CompactLogix 5380).

With a 1747-AENTR in slot 0, the existing 1746 rack can keep running as EtherNet/IP remote I/O under a CompactLogix or ControlLogix, so I/O modules can be replaced like-for-like until the rack is converted.
1492-CM1746 conversion modules and pre-wired cables land the existing 1746 terminal-block wiring on the new module without re-terminating field devices.
