Series & Revisions

No series in stock today; request a series above.

Series notes: Logix keys on catalog number and firmware revision, not series; with the default Compatible Module keying, any series of the same catalog number is accepted in the slot.

Intended Use

Intended for EtherNet/IP networking and remote I/O applications. The bridge connects a ControlLogix chassis to distributed I/O, drives, HMIs and other controllers over Ethernet, and uplinks the rack to plant and business networks. Dual-port versions build device-level ring (DLR) topologies for fault-tolerant machine networks.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the 1756-ENBT. Published successor for the 1756-ENBT EtherNet/IP bridge: 1756-EN2T, or 1756-EN2TR where a Device Level Ring or dual ports are wanted.

  • Same slot and RJ-45 connection; in the Logix project change the module type (or set Electronic Keying to Disable Keying during the swap) and download.
  • The EN2T supports 256 CIP connections against 128 on the ENBT and a higher packet rate, so no existing connection budget is lost.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.

Common failures

Failure patterns we regularly see on ControlLogix EtherNet/IP bridge (10/100 copper, 1st generation) hardware like the 1756-ENBT:

  • Scrolling display / IP address display blank while the module still passes traffic
  • Module drops all CIP connections under load and recovers only after a power cycle
  • Ethernet port failure: no link LED, or link flapping with a known-good cable and switch port
  • Solid red OK LED at power-up (module hardware fault) or module not seen in RSLinx
  • Overheating when the module runs near its connection limit in a sealed enclosure
