Intended Use

Built for distributed Remote I/O rack applications. Adapters and scanners connect 1771 I/O chassis to a PLC-5 or ControlLogix processor over Remote I/O or ControlNet, so I/O can sit near the equipment across large plants, mills and treatment facilities.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued 1771 I/O along with the PLC-5 platform. Published successor for the 1771 I/O: the equivalent ControlLogix 1756 I/O module.

Under a ControlLogix controller, the existing 1771 rack can stay in service as Remote I/O through a 1756-RIO scanner while modules are converted.
