Intended for PLC-5 networking and data communication applications. Communication and side-car modules connect PLC-5 systems to DH+, Ethernet, Remote I/O and serial devices for supervisory data, programming access and controller-to-controller messaging.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued 1771 I/O along with the PLC-5 platform. Published successor for the 1771 I/O: the equivalent ControlLogix 1756 I/O module.

Under a ControlLogix controller, the existing 1771 rack can stay in service as Remote I/O through a 1756-RIO scanner while modules are converted.
The 1492 conversion wiring system (1492-CM1771 modules and pre-wired cables) lands the existing 1771 swing-arm wiring on the new 1756 module without touching field devices.
