Catalog listingListed in the PanelView Standard selection guide under PanelView 900 Color terminals as 2711-K9C3. Rockwell lists this model line as no longer available for purchase. Repair or refurbished replacement is the supported path.
Decoded from the Rockwell Automation catalog-number structure. Series and firmware revision are printed on the product label, not encoded here.

Series & Revisions

Series C in stock; other series on request.

The catalog suffix, not the series, sets input type, communication port and power; series tracked firmware revisions.

Series notes: Same cutout and connector across series. A later series runs the existing PanelBuilder32 application; an earlier one may need it re-saved for its firmware.

Intended Use

Intended for legacy machine operator interface (HMI) applications. PanelView Standard terminals are the operator screens on the installed base of SLC 500, PLC-5 and MicroLogix machines, communicating over DH-485, DH+, Remote I/O, DeviceNet, ControlNet or RS-232 and running PanelBuilder32 applications.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued PanelView Standard terminals. Published successor for the PanelView Standard: PanelView Plus 7 Standard 2711P-T9W21D8S (9-in. wide) or 2711P-T10C21D8S (10.4-in.).

  • FactoryTalk View ME imports the PanelBuilder32 application (.pba) directly; screens, tags and alarms come across and the tag addresses are re-pointed at the controller.
  • PanelView Plus 7 communicates over EtherNet/IP. Terminals on DH-485, DH+ or Remote I/O need a 1756-DHRIO / 1761-NET-ENI style bridge or a controller that is already on Ethernet.
  • Cutouts differ. Rockwell's 2711P-RAK adapter plate kits cover several PanelView Standard openings; otherwise plan a new cutout. Plus 7 Standard is 24V DC, so AC-powered PanelViews add a 24V DC supply.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.

Common Failures

Failure patterns we regularly see on PanelView 900 Color keypad terminal hardware like the 2711-K9C3:

  • Application lost or terminal restarts in configuration mode after a power event: flash memory fault
  • Vertical lines or missing rows on the LCD: panel or flex-cable failure
  • Membrane keypad wear: function keys or numeric keys not responding, or a stuck key at power-up
  • Communication port failure: DH+, DH-485, RIO, DeviceNet, ControlNet or RS-232 line driver damaged by a surge or ground loop
  • Backlight dim or dark with the terminal still running: aged CCFL tubes or a failed inverter board

Fault indicator reference

2711-K9C3 Fault Indicators

6 states · 2711-UM014

A PanelView 900 Color keypad terminal has no numeric fault code display. Faults are signalled by the COMM (green) and Fault (red) status indicators (on the PanelView 300 Micro, shown on the Communication Setup screen), as documented in Rockwell Automation publication 2711-UM014. Use these states to tell a firmware or application problem from a hardware failure before sending the unit in for repair.

Status indicator states

Comm on · Fault offNormal operationNo communication faults; application running.
Comm offCommunication fault / hardware failedDF1, DH-485, DH+ and Remote I/O terminals: fault detected; check the controller is in Run mode, baud / rack settings and cabling. DeviceNet, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP terminals: communication hardware failed.
Comm blinkingNo communication establishedNo connection to the controller (Remote I/O: the PLC may be in Program mode). DF1 terminals blink until an application is loaded.
Comm flashingPower-upMomentary at power-up while self-tests run; normal.
Fault onFault detectedCycle power; if the fault remains the terminal needs servicing. On DeviceNet / ControlNet / EtherNet/IP terminals a solid Fault indicator means hardware failed.
Fault blinkingNo application loaded or application corruptHardware is working; reload the application into the terminal.

Where the manual's only remedy for a code is to replace the unit or module, the code is pointing at a hardware fault inside that part. Those are the faults NJT Automation repairs at component level, so a repair quote is usually the first thing to check before buying a replacement.
