Intended Use

Built for on-off actuation of valves, contactors and indicators applications. Solid-state outputs switch 24V DC or AC loads such as solenoid valves, contactor coils and indicator lights on SLC 500-controlled machines and process skids.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the SLC 500 platform, including 1746 I/O. Published successor for the SLC 500 1746 I/O: the equivalent Compact 5000 (5069) or 1769 Compact I/O module.

  • With a 1747-AENTR in slot 0, the existing 1746 rack can keep running as EtherNet/IP remote I/O under a CompactLogix or ControlLogix, so I/O modules can be replaced like-for-like until the rack is converted.
  • 1492-CM1746 conversion modules and pre-wired cables land the existing 1746 terminal-block wiring on the new module without re-terminating field devices.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.
