BulletinKinetix 2000: the compact, low-power (0.3…3 kW per axis) 230V version of the Kinetix multi-axis servo system — an integrated axis module feeds up to seven axis modules over a shared DC bus on a Bulletin 2093 power rail; sercos interface to the Logix motion controller.
A
Voltage class170…264V AC, single- or three-phase input (200V-class) system; the AM runs from the power rail's 325V DC bus.

Intended Use

Built for compact multi-axis servo motion applications. Kinetix 2000 axis modules add axes on the shared power rail for low-power, multi-axis machines such as small packaging, labeling, converting and medical equipment, with SERCOS motion from a Logix controller.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the Kinetix 2000. Published successor for the Kinetix 2000: Kinetix 5500 (2198-H) for low-power multi-axis systems, or Kinetix 5700 where axis counts and power are growing.

  • Kinetix 5500 is Integrated Motion on EtherNet/IP: the 1756-M0xSE SERCOS module or CompactLogix L4x motion port gives way to an EtherNet/IP path and the axes are rebuilt as CIP Motion axes in Studio 5000.
  • Existing MP-Series motors with Hiperface feedback stay in service through the 2198-H2DCK Hiperface-to-DSL feedback converter kit (drive firmware 2.001 or later). Kinetix 5500 does not support TL-Series or Y-Series motors; those axes move to VP-Series motors.
  • The 2093 power rail goes; Kinetix 5500 drives mount individually and share a DC bus with 2198-H bus-bar connectors.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.

Common failures

Failure patterns we regularly see on Kinetix 2000 axis module (AM) hardware like the 2093-AMP5:

  • Motor brake output failure: brake relay or brake driver on the control board not releasing the motor brake
  • Motor feedback lost / illegal Hall state (E07 / E11): failed feedback interface board, encoder supply, or a bent pin in the MF connector
  • Control board failure: axis will not enumerate on the rail, random fault codes, or a dead status display with the rail powered
  • Encoder communication / data faults (E30 / E31) with intelligent (Hiperface / Stegmann) feedback: feedback board serial channel
  • Power rail connector pins bent, burned or backed out: module not recognized in that slot
