Common Failures
Failure patterns we regularly see on PowerFlex 753 AC drive hardware like the 20F1AND186AA0NNNNN:
- DC bus undervoltage / overvoltage (F4 / F5) from capacitor aging or regen energy
- HIM display blank or unresponsive
- Hardware overcurrent (F12) or ground fault (F13) from a failed IGBT / power structure
- Main control board or option module faults (EtherNet/IP, safety, feedback cards)
- Drive will not power up: control power supply or precharge circuit failure
Fault code reference
20F1AND186AA0NNNNN Fault Codes
54 codes · 750-PM001
Fault codes a PowerFlex 753 AC drive reports on the HIM fault queue (fault number and text) and the drive's fault status parameters, as documented in Rockwell Automation publication 750-PM001. Use them to narrow a problem down to the unit, its wiring or the application before sending it in for repair.
| Code | Fault | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Auxiliary Input | An auxiliary input interlock is open; the application is not allowing the drive to energize. |
| 3 | Power Loss | DC bus voltage stayed below the power-loss level for longer than the programmed time. |
| 4 | UnderVoltage | DC bus voltage fell below the undervoltage level. |
| 5 | OverVoltage | DC bus voltage exceeded the maximum value. |
| 7 | Motor Overload | Internal electronic motor overload trip. |
| 8 | Heatsink OvrTemp | Heatsink temperature exceeded 100% of the drive temperature rating. |
| 9 | Trnsistr OvrTemp | The output transistors exceeded their maximum operating temperature. |
| 12 | HW OverCurrent | Output current exceeded the hardware current limit: grounded or shorted motor leads. |
| 13 | Ground Fault | A current path to earth ground greater than 25% of drive rating occurred. |
| 14 | Ground Warning | Ground current exceeded the programmed warning level. |

| 15 | Load Loss | Output torque current fell below the load-loss level for longer than the programmed time. |
| 17 | Input Phase Loss | DC bus ripple exceeded a preset level: check input impedance, phases and fuses. |
| 20 | TorqPrv Spd Band | Commanded speed and motor velocity feedback differ by more than the speed deviation band. |
| 21 | Output PhaseLoss | Current in one or more output phases was lost or stayed below the threshold. |
| 24 | Decel Inhibit | The drive is not following the commanded deceleration because it is limiting bus voltage. |
| 25 | OverSpeed Limit | Motor speed exceeded the overspeed limit. |
| 33 | AuRsts Exhausted | The drive used all programmed auto-restart tries without clearing the fault. |
| 35 | IPM OverCurrent | Current magnitude exceeded the IPM trip level. |
| 36 | SW OverCurrent | Output current exceeded the 1 ms current rating. |
| 38 / 39 / 40 | Phase U / V / W to Grnd | A phase-to-ground fault was detected between the drive and motor in that phase. |
| 41 / 42 / 43 | Phase UV / VW / WU Short | Excessive current was detected between two output terminals. |
| 48 | System Defaulted | The drive was commanded to write default values. |
| 55 | Ctrl Bd Overtemp | The main control board temperature sensor detected excessive heat. |
| 59 | Invalid Code | Internal error. |
| 61 / 62 | Shear Pin 1 / 2 | The programmed shear-pin torque level was exceeded. |
| 64 | Drive OverLoad | The drive overload count exceeded 100%. |
| 71–76 | Port 1–6 Adapter | The DPI communications option on that port has a fault. |
| 77 | IR Volts Range | The IR voltage drop calculated from motor nameplate data is out of range. |
| 78 | FluxAmpsRef Rang | Flux amps exceed the motor nameplate amps as calculated by autotune. |
| 79 | Excessive Load | The motor did not come up to speed in the allotted time during autotune. |
| 80 | AutoTune Aborted | The autotune function was cancelled or a fault occurred. |
| 81–86 | Port 1–6 DPI Loss | The DPI port stopped communicating. |
| 91 | Pri VelFdbk Loss | Feedback loss detected for the primary velocity feedback source. |
| 93 | Hw Enable Check | The hardware enable is jumpered out but indicates not enabled. |
| 94 | Alt VelFdbk Loss | Feedback loss detected for the alternate velocity feedback source. |
| 96 | PositionFdbkLoss | Feedback loss detected for the position feedback source. |
| 100 | Parameter Chksum | The parameter checksum read from non-volatile storage does not match. |
| 104 | Pwr Brd Checksum | The power board checksum does not match; data is set to default values. |
| 106 | Incompat MCB PB | The main control board did not recognize the power structure; flash newer firmware. |
| 107 | Replaced MCB PB | The main control board was moved to another power structure; data is set to defaults. |
| 108 | Anlg Cal Chksum | The analog calibration checksum does not match; a fault on the main control board. |
| 110 | Ivld Pwr Bd Data | Power structure data invalid; check the ribbon cable between the control and power interface boards. |
| 111 | PwrBd Invalid ID | Power structure ID invalid; check the ribbon cable between the control and power interface boards. |
| 112 | PwrBd App MinVer | The power structure needs a newer application firmware revision. |
| 124 | App ID Changed | Application firmware changed; verify the application revision. |
| 125 | Using Backup App | The application did not flash correctly; reflash. |
| 137 | Ext Prechrg Err | The seal contact on the external precharge contactor opened. |
| 138 | Precharge Open | The internal precharge contactor is open. |
| 141 | Autn Enc Angle | Encoderless angle compensation is out of range after autotune. |
| 142 | Autn Spd Rstrct | Frequency limit settings prevented a suitable autotune speed. |
| 143 | Autotune CurReg | Calculated current-regulator gains are out of range. |
| 144 | Autotune Inertia | Inertia test results are out of range. |
| 145 | Autotune Travel | The inertia test was prevented from reaching the required speed within the travel limit. |
| 152 | No Stop Source | The last stop source was removed. |
Where the manual's only remedy for a code is to replace the unit or module, the code is pointing at a hardware fault inside that part. Those are the faults NJT Automation repairs at component level, so a repair quote is usually the first thing to check before buying a replacement.
