Modular terminal: the logic module (2711P-RP / RP1 / RP2 on CE 4.1; 2711P-RP8 / RP9 on CE 6.0) sets the OS and the FactoryTalk View ME versions it runs.

Fitting a 2711P-RP8 / RP9 logic module to a Series B or later display is Rockwell's published in-panel upgrade to PanelView Plus 6; Series A display modules are not compatible with those logic modules.

Series notes: Displays of the same size interchange. Read the logic module catalog number and firmware on the back; the series letter alone does not tell you what the terminal can run.

Intended Use

Built for machine operator interface (HMI) applications. PanelView Plus terminals with a 15-in. display are the operator screens on packaging, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, automotive and water equipment, running FactoryTalk View ME applications against Logix, SLC and PLC-5 controllers. Keypad models suit gloved operators and washdown areas where a touchscreen is impractical.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the original PanelView Plus and PanelView Plus CE terminals. Published successor for the PanelView Plus (Windows CE 4.1): PanelView Plus 7 Performance 2711P-B15C22D9P with the 2711P-RAAK15 adapter plate.

Restore the project into current FactoryTalk View ME from the .apa or .med source, or from a .mer that was saved with conversion allowed, then create a new runtime for the Plus 7 firmware.
Cutouts differ. For the 700, 1000, 1250 and 1500 sizes Rockwell's 2711P-RAAT / RAAK adapter plates fit a Plus 7 Performance terminal into the existing opening; the 400/600 move to Plus 7 Standard, which has no adapter plates and needs a new opening.
Plus 7 Performance Series B is 24V DC only; AC-powered terminals add a 24V DC supply. Plus 7 has no serial port or network-module slot, so DF1 and 2711P-RN6 (DH+/RIO) / RN3 (DH-485) connections move to EtherNet/IP.
In-panel alternative for the modular 700 to 1500 units with a Series B or later display: a surplus 2711P-RP8 / RP9 logic module turns the existing display into a PanelView Plus 6 without touching the cutout. Series A displays are not compatible.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.
