Intended Use

Intended for single-axis indexing and positioning applications. Kinetix 300 drives run one servo axis as a standalone indexer configured from a web browser and commanded over EtherNet/IP, Modbus or discrete I/O, on labelers, feeders, cut-to-length, conveyors and small positioning tasks that do not need a full motion controller. Safe Torque Off lets the drive sit in the machine's safety circuit without an external contactor.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the Kinetix 300. Published successor for the Kinetix 300: Kinetix 5100 (2198-E), Rockwell's current standalone indexing servo drive.

Kinetix 5100 is configured with KNX5100C software in place of the Kinetix 300 MotionView web interface; index tables and I/O assignments are re-entered, not imported. Like the Kinetix 300 it is commanded over EtherNet/IP (indexing, explicit messaging or Logix Add-On Instructions), pulse train, analog or discrete I/O. It is not an Integrated Motion (CIP Motion) axis; use Kinetix 5300 for that.
Existing MP-Series motors with Hiperface feedback are supported; flying-lead feedback cables terminate in the 2198-K51CK-D15M connector kit. TLP motors are the native motor line.
Mounting and connector layout differ from the 2097, so plan panel changes.
