Intended Use

Built for general-purpose small-motor variable-speed control applications. PowerFlex 40 drives run conveyors, pumps, fans, mixers and small machines up to 15 Hp, with sensorless vector control and optional network adapters.

Migration Path

Rockwell Automation has discontinued the PowerFlex 40. Published successor for the PowerFlex 40: PowerFlex 525 25B-B017N104 (same voltage, current and enclosure code).

  • The 520-Series catalog structure mirrors the PowerFlex 4-Class, so the 25B- number with the same voltage, current and enclosure code is the direct equivalent, and the 525 adds embedded EtherNet/IP and Safe Torque Off.
  • Rockwell's PowerFlex 4-Class to 520-Series migration literature includes a parameter cross-reference; 22-COMM-x adapters give way to the embedded port or 25-COMM-x modules.
  • Mounting footprints are close but not identical between frames; verify the cutout against 520-TD001.

A like-for-like replacement or a repair keeps the existing program, wiring and panel layout; a migration is a project. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be made on lead time and budget.
